not just for backs

Most people think of chiropractors as “back” doctors that treat adults for neck and back pain, but we are really doctors of the nervous system. If there is pressure on the nervous system (many times starting with the birth process) our bodies start to have pain, discomfort or other symptoms. Chiropractic at any age helps take the pressure off of these nerves, allowing our bodies to do what they do best – feel great and function at 100%. The benefits for babies, kids and teens are far and wide and Doctors that specialize in pediatrics take additional classes and seminars to learn this style of chiropractic care.

what to expect

The experience of getting adjusted varies depending on the different techniques we use. With all techniques, our doctors will ask you how you are feeling, if your symptoms are improving and assess your spine. If you choose chiropractic for wellness care, less focus is on your symptoms and more on keeping your body in alignment and as healthy as can be. Chiropractors look for areas of the body that aren’t moving well or that are out of balance and use their hands or a hand-held instrument to help align it. Adjustments are done on special chiropractic tables and help restore normal motion to the spine, increase range of motion, reduce pain and take pressure off the nervous system. The adjustments range from manual adjustments (where you hear the adjusting noise) to drop table adjustments (where the table makes a small movement under you to facilitate the adjustment) to the use of an Activator or Arthrostim adjusting tool for our most mild chiropractic approach. At AHN, we offer you the choice of what technique we use and explain it before we adjust you.

Many patients ask what the adjusting noise is. While it sounds like a “cracking” noise, nothing bad is happening. When a chiropractor adjusts the spine, the joint temporarily opens up and pressure is released. This pressure then builds back up with a little time. Some patients absolutely love this noise and say, “I want you to “crack” everything!” Some patients really don’t like this sound. We respect that and use the drop table or hand-held instrument techniques with them instead.
