what is acupuncture
Acupuncture is the use of small needles, some as thin as a strand of hair, on the surface of the skin to stimulate specific acupuncture points located on the body. Stimulating these points helps to free the movement of blocked Qi (pronounced chee) in the body.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Qi is known as the energy or life force that powers every function in your body. It flows through pathways that span the entire body. Disease, pathogens, trauma (physical or emotional) and other factors can block or disrupt the flow of Qi. Acupuncture balances the physiological functions of the body to promote and maintain health.
Acupuncture has been shown to help with a variety of different issues including, but not limited to; asthma, headaches, seasonal allergies, low back pain, smoking cessation, digestive issues, stress, and of course general immune system support. Give us a call to find out more about how acupuncture could benefit you!
what you can expect
During your first acupuncture visit, you will meet with Dr. George to explain what you are experiencing. From there, Dr. George will determine what points to insert needles into. Rarely, you could feel a mild pinch when a needle is inserted, but more often than not you will not even know the needle was already inserted! Once completed, Dr. George will leave you to relax in the dimly lit treatment room for 20 minutes while the needles do their job of supporting and improving the specific functions they were meant to.

what is cupping
Cupping is an ancient alternative medicine technique that is used to heal the body from muscular pain, inflammation, circulation issues and tension. It can also used to help with symptoms from the common cold, nasal congestion, eczema, and acne.
The suction during cupping is created by a pneumatic device which will draw up any deep stagnation of body fluids like blood and lymph fluid, as well as encourage the movement of stagnant Qi. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Qi is the name given to the body’s life energy. Cupping feels amazing on the muscles by getting them to relax and teaching the tissue to move better, while also assisting the body with its natural cleansing process, flushing stagnant fluids out to bring new, healthy fluids into the area.
what you can expect
Due to the nature of the cups and the drawing out of stagnant body fluids, cupping sessions can potentially leave dark red or purple marks on the skin. These are not painful, but could take a few days to go away.
Cupping works great as a standalone treatment and is even better when used in conjunction with acupuncture!
